Our multi-media project titled, “Shedding”, is inspired by both June Moon’s Augmented Shadow: Chasing Stars in Shadow, and an excerpt from the book, “A Musician’s Soul”. Within our piece, the viewers are immersed into the space and mind of the subject, as she reads a section within her book revolving around the concept of shedding and letting go of past experiences that burden us. As her stream of thought ends, so do the harmonies and music that filled her mind, and all that remains is the soundscape coming from outside her – Rain. This sound itself signifying letting go. Through this project, we welcome viewers to reflect on moments in their personal lives where they have had to endure shedding and enter a space of deep thought, and find freedom, as conceptualized within our piece. This project was created using a combination of mediums such as projection, videography, spoken word, animation, and audio production and sound design. Through the use of a white sheet as a backdrop, and a small projector, and props, we successfully emulated a visual setting of the subject sitting at a desk in her room, reading in front of her bedroom window. We then created an ethereal audio soundscape using field recording and music production. In post-production, varying text styles were used to highlight the reader’s thoughts, and additional animations were added to further enhance our edited video and audio.
